Change

Poem #5: Change

Not knowing what to do or what to say,
A mix of feelings overcomes me.
Not able to confide in anyone the emotions I feel,
They are too much of a secret to be told.
Yet I think of all the good that’s happened,
And all the bad that may have come out of it.
And what effect it may have on me in the future.
So many possibilities, to no end at all,
So many barriers, to no end at all.
The good and the bad,
The beautiful and the ugly,
Are all things I have faced,
All things I will experience again.

So much has happened that it is too hard to describe.
And too much is happening for me to keep up.
Life has an altering course, on which so much can take place,
But there are times the route must change.
You leave friends, you move into another city.
No one knows where life will take us.
But I’ve got a secret:
I’ll keep moving on.
And through these changes I’ll learn my lessons.
Looking back, I miss some people I’ve met, and regret even looking at others.
Looking back, I miss some of the places I’ve been, and regret visiting others.

Change is something that must take place.
Without it, we would never learn to miss, to hope, to dream, to respect, to reflect, and most of all, to love.
Without change, we would never learn to curse, to avoid, to argue, to fight, to regret, and most of all, hate.

Change is inevitable, and without it life would never be as exciting or painful as it is.
So be happy or discontent with what you’ve got at the moment, but remember that someday you will lose it – forever and eternity never last in this lifetime.
